Serving Whitman County since 1877
Day of candy, vendors, live music, cars and more
PALOUSE - Community members and visitors filled the streets for Palouse Day Saturday, Sept. 14 marking another year of festivities.
Main Street filled with people in the morning bringing spectators, family members and children who scurried into the street to collect candy.
M.C. Matt Zook announced the kiddie parade participants and main parade as school organizations, local government officials, businesses and even a candidate for governor made their way down main street.
"I think the parade went really well," said Palouse Arts Council member Shishona Turner. "Matt Zook did a really good job of running each of the parade entries and he talked about them a little bit."
Turner said she was impressed they got candidate Bob Ferguson to go through the parade.
The parade had County Commissioner Art Swannack handing out Tootsie Rolls and Whitman County Superior Judge 2024 candidates Roger Sandberg and Jenna Brozik made an appearance.
"The imagination station was really well received," Turner said, noting that a group of girls spent about an hour making a fairy house and even took supplies home to finish it when the station closed.
"We had some really great creations they just got to grab supplies and make whatever they want," Turner said.
In addition to going through the parade, Garfield-Palouse Vikotics ran the dunk tank for fundraising.
"The dunk tank was very popular," said Turner.
After the parade, an egg toss sponsored by State Bank Northwest took over Main Street.
"There were probably about 45 teams," said State Bank Northwest Teller Debbie Brooks.
Brooks said that this year's winners of the egg toss were Jessie Lopez and Jake Wells.
In addition to the parade and egg toss, a full day of fun was had with crafts, music and a vintage car show.
Music at the Palouse Caboose wrapped up the day's festivities.
