WHMC welcomes new podiatrist

Simmons the only podiatrist at WHMC

COLFAX — Whitman County Hospital and Medical Clinics welcomed a new podiatrist to the team earlier this month.

Adam Simmons, 40, grew up in Provo, Utah, where he finished his undergrad in Biology at Utah University.

Simmons said he moved to Miami where he went to Medical School to study podiatry, which focuses on the foot and ankle.

The only podiatrist at Whitman Hospital and Medical Clinics, Simmons said he started out wanting to be a dentist, shadowing his friend’s dad growing up.

It was when he met a podiatrist who convinced Simmons to shadow him, that Simmons fell in love with podiatry and decided to pursue it as a career.

“I always wanted to be in the medical field, but I didn’t know what I wanted to do until I was in college,” said Simmons.

Simmons went to Barry University to get his podiatric degree and then I did two trainings including wound clinical and surgical training.

“I also have trauma for elective surgical training of the foot and ankle,” he said, “The care was done at San Franscisco medical center and foot and ankle training in Tampa.”

Services that Simmons offers, he said, includes everything from diabetic foot exams, related foot and ankle sports injuries, bumps and bruises, ankle sprains and ingrown toenails.

“All things foot and ankle related,” said Simmons.

Simmons met his wife, Amy Simmons, during his undergrad studies at Utah University.

The Simmons have three daughters aged 16, 13 and 10 who attend Colfax High School and Jennings Elementary.

“My wife’s family is from here,” Simmons said in regards to moving to Colfax. “I had been affiliated with the area off and on since we’ve been married for the last 16 years and we decided it would be nice to move closer to home.”

Simmons said he reached out to Whitman Hospital and Medical Clinics and decided to come work in Colfax.

“It’s definitely a unique place to live being surrounded by the farmland and rolling hills,” Simmons said, noting it is beautiful and he loves it.

“It’s a small town where a lot of people know my wife and through her I’m beginning to know a few people,” said Simmons. “I’m coming to enjoy everything it has to offer.”
