Endicott Road Overlay project bid awarded

Central Washington Asphalt $2,010,000 bid awarded

COLFAX — Whitman County Commissioners approved a $2,010,000 bid to pave Endicott Road.

According to public record, the project to improve Endicott Road from milepost 23.71 to milepost 29.81 will require paving, pavement markings, guardrail, traffic control and other work.

A road overlay resurface project requires application of approximately two inches of asphalt concrete to an existing surface or pavement of the road to prolong the life of the road.

The Whitman County engineer’s estimate on the project comes to $1,553,750.80.

Commissioners opened bids during the Monday, Sept. 16, regular county commissioner meeting receiving bids from Central Washington Asphalt at a total of $2,010,000, Poe Asphalt totaling $2,056,136.90 and Motley-Motley Inc with a total of $2,396,032.06.

During the Monday, Sept. 20, county commissioner regular meeting County Engineer Dean Cornelison told commissioners Public Works staff recommended moving forward with an award to Central Washington asphalt.

Commissioner Tom Handy moved to approve the bid and Commissioner Michael Largent seconded, moving forward with the $2,010,000 bid.

“They’re chomping to get it paved this fall,” Cornelison reported, adding he would send out the contracts this week with the goal of getting them signed by Tuesday, Oct. 7, starting the project on Oct. 8.

Cornelison reported the company needs to get the road paved in five days.
