Kohberger to appear for status conference

First hearing after relocation this week

BOISE, Idaho — A status conference hearing is scheduled next week for Bryan Kohberger, 29, the man accused of killing four University of Idaho students, in Ada County Superior Court following his relocation.

The status conference is scheduled at 2 p.m., for Thursday, Sept. 26, before Idaho 4th District Judge Steven Hippler, who was recently assigned to the case.

Kohberger was transferred to Ada County by plane this past Sunday after the Idaho Supreme Court moved his trial from Moscow to Boise.

Kohberger faces four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary for the stabbing deaths of Ethan Chapin, 20, and Xana Kernodle, 20, and Madison Mogen, 21, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21.

The students were found dead in an off-campus home on King Street in Moscow in November 2022.

Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty if Kohberger is convicted. His defense team has filed motions to remove capital punishment as a sentencing option.

The trial, initially set for June 2025, was vacated due to the change in venue and judge. The upcoming hearing will determine the new schedule for the case.

Seating for the hearing will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, with a livestream provided on the Idaho Fourth District Court’s.
