Rodeo at Palouse Empire Fairgrounds this weekend

Events begin Friday afternoon and run through Sunday

COLFAX - The third Washington State High School Rodeo Association rodeo of the fall season is being held this weekend at the Palouse Empire Fairgrounds in Colfax.

The Colfax rodeo features cowboys and cowgirls hosted by the Colfax Junior High and High School.

The Junior High Rodeo began at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, and will continue Saturday, Sept. 28, at 9 a.m. The High School Rodeo begins one hour after the Junior High rodeo completes on Saturday and continues Sunday at 8 a.m. Saturday night also has a Family Swing Dance. There will be Cowboy Church at 7 a.m. on Sunday.

To kick off the Junior High Rodeo, events include steer bareback riding, steer saddle bronc riding and chute dogging. Other events include barrel racing, bulls, tie-down roping, ribbon roping, breakaway roping, goats, poles and team roping.

For the High School Rodeo, events include bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, barrels, bulls, tie-down roping, breakaway roping, team roping, steer wrestling, goats and poles.

The fall rodeo season will conclude with a State Run on Oct. 4-6 in Coulee City, Wash. The full season will continue through the spring, ending with a State Finals Rodeo to be held at a date and time to be determined.

Those finishing in the top four if their event will have the opportunity to compete at the National High School or Junior High Finals Rodeo.
