Timberwolves volleyball falls to Nighthawks, Vikings

Tekoa-Rosalia moves to 1-5 on the season

TEKOA - The Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves volleyball team dropped a pair of matches last week, falling to the Oakesdale Nighthawks on Tuesday, Sept. 17, and the Garfield-Palouse Vikings on Thursday, Sept. 19.

Against Oakesdale, the Timberwolves fell to the Nighthawks, 3-0, with set scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-11.

After falling in the first set, the Timberwolves fought hard to keep set two within reach. An ace by Tekoa-Rosalia senior Briley Smith tied the set at 14-14. Oakesdale then got four kills in the next five points, making it difficult for the Timberwolves to recover, until the Nighthawks won the set.

Early in set three, Tekoa-Rosalia again kept the score close until it was tied 7-7. Then the Timberwolves ran into a power performance by Oakesdale's Parker Davis who hit four aces in a row. Davis finished the match with a team-high five aces.

From there the Nighthawks controlled the court and won set three, and the match.

"That is the best our team has played so far this season and we just keep getting better and better, so I can't wait till we get to meet up again with Oakesdale," Tekoa-Rosalia coach Sara Chase said. "It is such a fun event and great competition."

The team improvement showed in the next match as the Timberwolves handed Garfield-Palouse its first set loss of the season. Gar-Pal won the match, 3-1, with set scores of 25-15, 25-21, 20-25, 25-13.

"That was a tough match, we played really hard and just fell short," Chase said. "We still have a few things we need to work on but again, this team is getting better every match we have."

The Timberwolves went on to play nonleague action in the Valley Christian Jamboree on Saturday, Sept. 21. Their next match was away against Waitsburg on Tuesday, Sept. 24, after press time. The team returns home today, Thursday, Sept. 26, for a match against St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse in Tekoa.
