Colfax Bulldogs bring down Gorillas, 33-13

Colfax travels to Priest River for Oct. 5 game

DAVENPORT - The Gorillas drew first blood, but the Bulldogs answered the next three times to win a Northeast 2B football game Friday, Sept. 27.

The Colfax Bulldogs topped the Davenport Gorillas, 33-13.

The Gorillas marched down the field on their first possession of the game, with 5-foot-10 junior running back punching the ball in on Davenport's first possession to take a 6-0 lead.

Colfax responded on the Bulldog's next two possessions on the running of senior John Largent, passing of Ryker Reed and receiving of junior Zach Cooper.

And with the first quarter wrapping up, the Bulldogs had the momentum and a 13-6 lead.

The second quarter was all Colfax, with the Bulldogs keeping the Gorillas off balance and off the scoreboard.

Largent scored on a 1-yard dive for Colfax early in the second quarter and Cooper added another TD.

At the break, Colfax had a commanding 27-6 lead.

The second-half slowed down with each team putting up only a single touchdown in the league game.

Individual statistics were not reported for the game.

Heading into Week 5 of the high school season, Colfax (3-1) travels to Priest River, Idaho, for a non-league battle, and Davenport (0-3) travels to Spangle to take on the NE2B rival Liberty Lancers (2-2).

The Lancers will come to Colfax to face the host Bulldogs on Friday, Oct. 11.

The Bulldogs are currently sitting in the No. 3 position in the Northeast 2B.

Atop the league is undefeated Asotin (4-0). At 3-1, both Northwest Christian (Colbert) and Colfax have only lost one game - to Asotin. Freeman is also 3-1, having lost to Northwest Christian.

Newport, too, is at 3-1, with its only lost to Northwest Christian.

The competitiveness of the Northeast 2B has the AP football poll set to change.

As of last week, Freeman was ranked No. 3, Northwest Christian was No.7, Newport was No. 8 and Asotin was No. 9.
