Colton volleyball gets the win

Wildcats defeat Waitsburg in 3 sets

PALOUSE — Maintaining their dominance on the volleyball court, the Garfield-Palouse (Gar-Pal) Vikings remained undefeated through last week of play.

The Vikings defeated the Colton Wildcats on Tuesday, Sept. 24, and the Pomeroy Pirates on Thursday, Sept. 26.

Against Colton, Gar-Pal won the match, 3-0, with set scores of 25-9, 25-13 and 25-14.

Clare Bowechop led the Vikings with seven aces with Elena Flansburg and Kyra Brantner each tallying three. Bowechop and Morgan Lentz each had five digs in the match. Flansburg had three blocks and Molly Huffman had two.

The match against Pomeroy was much more of a battle as it went to five sets, with the Vikings defeating the Pirates, 3-2. Set scores were 25-13, 25-17, 21-25, 16-25 and 15-12.

Brantner led the Vikings with five aces and 13 kills, with Bowechop getting 12 kills. Kaylee Kimble got three aces in the match. Flansburg had one block and Iris Turner had 13 digs with Morgan Lentz getting 11 digs.

The Vikings played a home match against Oakesdale in a battle of unbeatens at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, after press time. Their next match is away at Waitsburg at 6 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 3.
