Eagles split road matches

SJEL defeats Dayton Bulldogs, fall to T-R Timberwolves

DAYTON - The St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse (SJEL) Eagles volleyball team went 1-1 last week, defeating the Dayton Bulldogs and falling to the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves.

On Tuesday, Sept. 25, the Eagles traveled to Dayton where SJEL defeated the Bulldogs, 3-1. Set scores were 25-12, 24-26, 25-22, 25-21.

Leading the Eagles was Kate Hergert with eight kills and Chloe Waddell adding seven. Sophie Anderson had five aces, with Catalina Torres and Avery Flemming each getting four.

Torres had 14 digs in the match, with Lily Barlass getting 10. Anderson also led SJEL with 27 assists.

In the match against Tekoa-Rosalia, the Eagles fell to the Timberwolves, 3-1. Set scores were 28-26, 25-22, 13-25 and 25-21.

Fleming led the Eagles with seven kills and Olivia Danielson had eight assists with Torres and Anderson each getting four.

Hergert and Waddell each had four blocks in the match and Torres had 27 digs. Anderson had 22 assists on the night.

The Eagles went on to play in the Linda-Sheridan-Buzz Welch Crossover Classic tournament on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27-28. The Eagles went 0-4 at the tournament, falling to higher-classification teams.

In pool play, SJEL fell to 3A team Shadle Park, 2-0, with set scores of 25-9 and 25-20. Wenatchee (4A) defeated the Eagles, 2-0 (25-16, 25-6) and SJEL lost to 1A opponent Nooksack Valley, 2-0 (25-14, 25-15).

In the Copper Bracket, the Eagles fell to 3A team Central Valley, 2-0, with set scores of 25-21 and 25-20.

The Eagles next faced the Pomeroy Pirates at home on Tuesday, Oct. 1, after press time. Their next match is at home against Oakesdale at 6 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 3.
