Pirates pillage the Vikings

Pomeroy defeats Gar-Pal in high-scoring matchup

POMEROY - Garfield-Palouse (Gar-Pal) put 42 points on the board, but it wasn't enough as the Pomeroy Pirates defeated the Vikings, 68-42, on Friday, Sept. 27.

Pomeroy remains undefeated and Gar-Pal falls to 0-4 on the season.

The majority of points were scored in the first half, after which Pomeroy led, 52-28.

In the first quarter, Pomeroy's Jett Slusser punched in a 2-yard run to open the scoring. Gar-Pal answered with a 3-yard run by Bryce Pfass. Slusser then scored on a 6-yard run and a 42-yard run before Gar-Pal's Lane Collier ran in a 31-yard touchdown.

Before the end of the opening quarter, Slusser scored on a 44-yard run and Collier scored on a 46-yard run.

In the second quarter, Slusser scored two rushing touchdowns, one from 30 yards out and once from 31 yards out. Gar-Pal's Macent Rardon caught a 54-yard touchdown pass from Pfaff before Pomeroy answered with a 9-yard run from Kyzer Herres.

Pomeroy struck twice in the third quarter with Slusser getting touchdown runs from 5 yards and 19 yards out.

In the final quarter, The Vikings scored twice. Landon Orr caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Pfaff and Collier caught a 65-yard pass from Pfaff.

Slusser had 28 carries for 345 yard and a school-record eight rushing touchdowns. Gar-Pal's Collier had 176 yards and two touchdowns, with Pfaff passing for three touchdowns.

Next up, the Vikings take on the Dayton Bulldogs in a home game at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5.
