Tekoa-Rosalia wins the five-set match
TEKOA - It was an exciting night of volleyball as the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves battled the Pomeroy Pirates for a five-set Homecoming victory on Thursday, Oct. 3.
Tekoa-Rosalia won the match, 3-2, with set scores of 22-25, 25-17, 17-25, 25-17 and 15-11.
The Timberwolves took a 9-1 lead to start the first set, but the Pirates swiftly recovered, overtaking Tekoa-Rosalia and gaining a 16-13 lead.
Each team kept pace from there and Pomeroy took the first set, 25-22.
The second set was much closer the entire way. The Pirates and Timberwolves exchanged points until Tekoa-Rosalia came away with the 25-17 set win, tying the match, 1-1.
To start set three, each team only gained one point on each other until the score was tied at 13-13. Pomeroy gained the advantage, scoring the next eight points, bringing the score to 21-13. The Timberwolves fought back, but Pomeroy won the set, 25-17.
Set four was again a close matchup early on, but the Timberwolves pulled away with the score and took a 15-5 lead. They kept the pressure up and won set four, 25-17.
Set five was a heated battle, with Pomeroy gaining a two-point lead at 6-5. The Timberwolves rallied back and gained an 8-5 lead. Pomeroy answered with three consecutive points, tying the set, 8-8. Tekoa-Rosalia gained three points of its own and gained an 11-8 lead.
From there both teams fought for every point until the Timberwolves won the set, 15-11, and the match, 3-2.
Tekoa Rosalia went on to play a doubleheader against Selkirk and Cusick on Saturday, Oct. 5. The Timberwolves never lost a set in the matchups and defeated both teams, 3-0. Full statistics were not available at press time.
The Timberwolves continued their season with an away match against the Dayton Bulldogs on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Their next match is at 6 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 10 with a home match against Oakesdale.
