Blue Mountain dominates Idaho rodeo

Palouse Empire Fairgrounds invites college competition

COLFAX - College rodeo teams from across the region competed in various events, with Blue Mountain Community College dominating both the men's and women's teams at the Northwest Region Rodeo at the Palouse Empire Fairgrounds on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Blue Mountain Community College took first place in the men's team competition, scoring 699 points, followed by Walla Walla Community College with 461 points. Lassen College placed third with 409 points, while Treasure Valley Community College came in fourth with 397 points. Thompson Rivers University rounded out the top five with 100 points.

On the women's side, Blue Mountain Community College also claimed the top spot with 403 points. Walla Walla Community College finished second with 290 points, closely followed by Lassen College with 287.5 points. Treasure Valley Community College earned 226 points for fourth place, and the University of Idaho finished in fifth with 192.5 points.

In the all-around competition, David Phillip Fraser from Lassen College and Luke Russell Brannon from Blue Mountain Community College tied for first in the men's division, each earning 176 points. Teegan Suzzann Hill from Lassen College led the women's all-around with 242.5 points, followed by Blue Mountain's Kennedy Marie Buckner with 208 points.

Individual event highlights included Caseyn James Pystel of Treasure Valley Community College winning the saddle bronc riding event with a score of 73. In bareback riding, Hunter Quade Greenup from Blue Mountain Community College claimed first place with a score of 57, while Parker Jay Buchanan, also from Blue Mountain, won the bull riding event with a score of 67.

Other top performances included Tice Fredrick Hiner of Walla Walla Community College winning the tie-down roping event with a time of 13.8 seconds, and Braedyn Albert White, also from Walla Walla, placing first in steer wrestling with a time of 10.9 seconds.

In team roping, the top header was Teegan Suzzann Hill from Lassen College with a time of 10.3 seconds, while Bodey Wayne Ratliff, also from Lassen, took the heeler title with the same time.

In barrel racing, Jorgia Ruthann Bean of Walla Walla Community College came out on top with a time of 17.82 seconds. Lauryn Charlotte Riney and Kayla Ann Hurl, both from the University of Idaho, finished strong with respective times of 18.07 and 18.21 seconds.

The breakaway roping event saw Addison Dawn Arnzen from Blue Mountain Community College take first with a time of 2.6 seconds. Meanwhile, Joslyn Ann Arnold of Walla Walla Community College won the goat tying event with a time of 8.7 seconds.

The University of Idaho rodeo club will continue to compete throughout the fall season, with the next regional event scheduled for later this month.
