Colton invaded by Pirates, tame Lions

Wildcats split week of matches

COLTON — On Thursday, Oct. 10, the Pomeroy Pirates defeated the Colton Wildcats, 3-0, in a Southeast 1B League matchup. The Wildcats licked their wounds and defeated the Prescott Tigers, 3-1, on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Against Pomeroy, the Pirates won by set scores of 25-9, 25-9, 25-15.

Senior Clair Moehrle and sophomore Mere Bell led the Wildcats with two aces each. Moehrle and eighth grader Adara Ligouri each led with two assists apiece. Bell had one block and three kills in the match and junior Kiya Soza had a team-high seven digs.

In a close matchup, the Wildcats went on to defeat the Prescott Lions, 3-1, on Saturday, Oct. 12. Set scores for the match read 25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23.

Moehrle and fellow senior Holly Heitstuman led the wildcats with four aces each. Moehrle had seven kills and Liguori had a team-high 11 assists. Bell had 10 digs and two blocks in the match.

Colton next played a home match against the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves on Monday, Oct. 14.

In a five-set rumble, the Wildcats defeated the Timberwolves, 3-2. Full set scores and statistics were not available at press time.
