Nighthawks volleyball still unbroken

Oakesdale stays undefeated in season matchups

OAKESDALE - The Oakesdale Nighthawks volleyball team continued its reign of terror on the court with 3-0 wins against the Colton Wildcats on Tuesday, Oct. 8, and the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves on Thursday, Oct. 10.

The only team to take just one set from Oakesdale in regular-season play was a 3-1 decision against Wilbur-Creston-Keller on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Against Colton, the Nighthawks won by set scores of 5-14, 25-15 and 25-12.

Junior Bradyn Henley led the Nighthawks with five aces and two blocks. Freshman Megan Crider notched 20 assists, sophomore Grace Perry added nine kills and freshman Lyla Kjack had four digs on the night.

The Nighthawks then defeated the Timberwolves on Thursday night. Set scores were 25-17, 25-7 and 25-8.

Perry led the team with six aces, Crider had 14 assists, Kjack contributed 10 kills and Henley notched three blocks. Kjack, Henley and eighth grader Parker Davis each had one dig in the match.

Oakesdale went on to play in the Liberty Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 12. The Nighthawks went 3-2 in two-set tournament play.

Oakesdale fell to 2B opponents the Colfax Bulldogs, 2-0, with set scores of 25-20, 25-22. The Nighthawks defeated Wilbur-Creston-Keller, 2-0, with set scores of 25-22, 25-21. The Okanogan Bulldogs defeated the Nighthawks, 2-0, and Oakesdale beat the Chewelah Cougars, 2-0, with set scores of 25-11, 25-1.

The Nighthawks finished out the tournament with a win against the Coupeville Wolves, 2-0, with set scores of 25-13, 25-18.

Oakesdale went on to play the Waitsburg Cardinals on Tuesday, Oct. 15, after press time. The next matchup for the Nighthawks is to play an away match against the Pomeroy Pirates today, Thursday, Oct. 17.
