Bulldogs celebrate Senior Night

COLFAX - The Colfax Bulldogs volleyball team got a big 3-0 win against the Asotin Panthers to celebrate Senior Night on Thursday, Oct. 17, for their final home match of the season.

Seniors this year are middle blocker Ava Swan, outside hitter Brenna Gilchrist, outside hitter Marchele McNeilly, middle blocker Karly Wigen and defensive specialist Dory Doty.

The Bulldogs improved throughout the match, winning by set scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-13. Swan led the Bulldogs with 21 kills, 18 kills and two blocks. Gilchrist had 17 assists and three aces in the match.

Colfax had a big week of volleyball as the season winds down, playing four matches in five days.

On Tuesday, Oct. 15, the Bulldogs traveled to Rockford, Wash., to take on the Freeman Scotties in a Northeast 2B League matchup.

Freeman won the match, 3-0, with set scores of 25-13, 15-13 and 15-17. Freeman is 12-2 on the season.

Staying in Rockford over the weekend, the Bulldogs participated in the Freeman tournament where they played the 1A team Chelan Mountain Goats (15-0 on the season) and the 1A school Lakeside Eagles (9-2)of Nine Mile Falls, Wash.

On Saturday, Oct. 19, Chelan defeated the Bulldogs, 3-0, by set scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-14. Colfax then took the first set against Lakeside to extra points, and won the third set, but fell to the Eagles, 3-1. Set scores were 26-24, 25-18, 19-25, 25-17.

Throughout the tournament, Swan led the Bulldogs with 18 kills, Gilchrist had 41 assists and sophomore Avery Andrus had 17 digs.

The Bulldogs moved to a record of 6-12 on the season. They finished out the regular season against the Liberty Lancers in an away match on Tuesday, Oct. 22, after press time.
