Vikings continue to pillage the court

PALOUSE — The Garfield-Palouse (Gar-Pal) Vikings are doing what Vikings do … raiding nearby towns and terrorizing whoever stands in their way.

The Vikings defeated the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves, 3-1, on Tuesday Oct. 15, before besting the Colton Wildcats, 3-0, on Thursday, Oct. 17. After the win on Thursday, Gar-Pal moved to 11-1 on the season.

Against the Timberwolves, the Vikings won by set scores of 25-16, 26-24, 17-25 and 25-11.

Vikings sophomore Kyra Brantner had a team-high 14 kills with junior Clare Bowechop adding 12. Junior Elena Flansburg led with 14 digs with Brantner and Bowechop adding 13. Junior Morgan Lentz had 18 assists and sophomore Kaylee Kimble had 16. Flansburg and senior Hailey Beckner each had four blocks in the match.

Against Colton, the Vikings won by set scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-15.

Lentz had five aces, 17 assists and nine digs on the night. Brantner also had five aces while notching eight digs and 11 kills. Kimble had 17 assists and one block. Bowechop added 11 kills in the match.

Gar-Pal next played their last home match of the season against the Pomeroy Pirates on Tuesday, Oct. 22, after press time.

The Vikings are primed for a rematch against the undefeated Oakesdale Nighthawks in an away match at 6 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 24. Gar-Pal’s only loss of the season came at the hands of the Nighthawks in a 3-0 decision on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Gar-Pal will finish the regular season with an away match against the St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse Eagles at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, in St. John.
