Edna Elizabeth FitzGerald

Edna Elizabeth FitzGerald, 93, passed away on Oct. 24, 2024, in Colfax, Wash. Edna was born to Robert and Leona Koch on January 4, 1931 in Snoqualmie Falls, Wash. They lived in Hyak, Wash.

Her dad worked for Milwaukee Railroad so she moved to Cedar Falls, Wash., when she was six years old. She went to Cedar Falls school for seven years and then went to Snoqualmie Valley when the schools consolidated.

She had an older brother Robert, and Harold was born when she was nine years old. A year later her mother Leona was diagnosed with tuberculosis and was in a T.B. Sanitarium for two and a half years. Edna and her brothers had to live with other families in Cedar Falls.

Then they moved to Ewan, Wash., after the war. She went to school in St. John, Wash. While at school she was involved in many sports. She also met a boy named Robert (Bob) FitzGerald. She went to Kinman Business University in Spokane.

On July 24, 1950, Bob and Edna were married in a triple wedding ceremony in Lewiston, Idaho, with her friends. They were married over 60 years.

They lived at the FitzGerald family farm outside of St. John. They had four children: David, Kay, Gayle and Sam.

They moved to St. John was Bob stopped farming. Edna baby-sat for ten years. She also was great at sewing. She always made our clothes and started sewing for others. At the same time, she went to work for the St. John School District for 14 years as a math aide in special education. When she retired, she like to read, watch tv, knit, crochet, work puzzles, play cards and board games. She was a member of several card clubs.

There were many camping and boating trips with family and friends. She lived to fish, make mobiles out of driftwood, and be with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She was known as Grandma Fitzy or the Boat Grandma.

Edna is survived by her daughters Kay Auvil (Bill) and Gayle Harwood (Dave), her son Sam FitzGerald (Julie) and daughter in law Debbie FitzGerald. She has eight grandchildren, Travis Harwood (Erin), Jessie Albertsen (Rob), Ray FitzGerald (Shelby), Alyssa FitzGerald, Jordyn George (Tyler), Meagan Tennant (Jesse), Michelle Kelp (Nick) and Matthew FitzGerald. She also has ten great-grandchildren, Kieran Harwood, Robby FitzGerald, Owen and Tomi Albertsen, Colt, Tate, and Scout Tennant and Anthony, Olivia and Henry Kelp. She also has several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents Robert and Leona Koch, her husband Bob and brothers Robert Koch, Harold Koch, and her son David FitzGerald.

At the request of the family there will be no service. A special thanks to the Courtyard and the Gentiva Hospice staff. Memorial donations can be made to the St. John Fire Department or to the St. John School Foundation.
