Hounds slays Knights on Senior Night

Volleyball and soccer teams get wins

PULLMAN — Both the Pullman girls soccer and volleyball teams defeated the East Valley Knights of Spokane for their respective Senior Night matches on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

The Greyhounds volleyball team won the match, 3-0, and the soccer team won, 5-2.

In the volleyball match, the set scores were 25-20, 25-8, 25-7. Senior Ella Forster led Pullman with 20 kills and sophomore Camber Wolfe had a team-high 32 assists. Junior Kate Armstrong had an all-around game with 11 digs, three blocks and two aces.

The Greyhounds went on to play the Clarkston Bantams on Thursday, Oct. 24. Pullman defeated Clarkston, 3-0, with set scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-17.

Jasmyne Washington led the Greyhounds with 15 kills and three bocks. Wolfe added 32 assists and five aces with Armstrong notching 15 digs.

Pullman will finish out the regular season with an away match against the Deer Park Stags on Wednesday, Oct. 30, after press time.

In the soccer match, freshman Vicky Villarino had two goals and an assist, with junior Sidney Johnson adding a pair of assists in the victory against the Knights.

The Greyhounds built a 4-2 lead in the first half and senior Amelia Cobos scored in the 49th minute on a free kick to give the final 5-2 score.

Pullman struck first with Villarino scoring on the assist by Johnson in the fifth minute. Ten minutes of regulation later, Johnson again connected with Villarino to give the Greyhounds a 2-0 lead.

In the 19th minute of action, Pullman senior Azriah Seeber scored an unassisted goal.

The Knights got on the board three minutes later when junior Hayden Anderson scored unassisted.

The Greyhounds struck again in the 35th minute when senior Emma Bobo scored on the assist by Villarino. East Valley answered with another unassisted goal by Anderson two minutes later.

Pullman senior goalkeeper Lillian Cobos made seven saves during the match. The Greyhounds fired 10 shots against East Valley senior goalkeeper Hannah Rasmussen.

Pullman went on to play its last regular-season match against Clarkston on Thursday, Oct. 24.

The Bantams pulled out a 2-1 double overtime victory over the Greyhounds. Johnson scored the lone goal for the Greyhounds late in regulation to force overtime. Clarkston senior Rebecca Skinner scored both goals for the Bantams.

Pullman finishes the regular season second in the 2A Greater Spokane League Standings. The Greyhounds get a bye in the first round of the postseason tournament and will play the winner of Match No. 1 at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, in Pullman.
