COLFAX –– Michael Baumgartner is currently looking to win the 5th Congressional District seat in Eastern Washington.
The 5th Congressional District spans across 11 counties including Ferry, Pend Oreille, Lincoln, Stevens, Whitman, Walla Walla, Garfield, Asotin, Columbia and sections of Franklin and Adams County. The seat has been held since 2004 by long-time incumbent Cathy McMorris Rogers.
As of press time, Baumgartner, is leading with 59.82% of votes across the 11 counties the district covers, Carmela Conroy is currently at 40.04% across the counties.
In Whitman County, Baumgartner has garnered 6,204 votes, 53.97%; and Conroy at 5,283 votes, 45.96%.
In Spokane County, Baumgartner has obtained 131,201 votes, 57.48%%; and Conroy at 96,718 votes, 42.37%.
In Adams County, Baumgartner has gotten 1,263 votes, 84.26%; and Conroy at 234 votes, 15.61%.
In Lincoln County, Baumgartner has garnered 4,073 votes, 78.81%; and Conroy at 1,089 votes, 21.07%.
In Stevens County, Baumgartner has gotten 7,267 votes, 72.9%; and Conroy at 2,690 votes, 26.98%.
In Franklin County, Baumgartner has garnered 2,267 votes, 84.68%; and Conroy at 409 of votes, 15.28%
During a call with the Gazette, in regards to the current election standing, Conroy said, “We’re disappointed in the outcome, but the process of traveling across the district, meeting great people, participating in the Lentil Festival and other events has been wonderful. I’m very proud of the grass roots movement we have put together and the support of small donors and everybody who has supported our movement. It’s been an overall great experience.”
