Legislative incumbent candidates in lead

Dye and Schmick lead legislative races

COLFAX — Two legislative representative positions are up on the General Election ballot.

Running for State Representative Position 1 incumbent Mary Dye takes the lead against Patrick Miller and Position 2 sees a lead in votes by Joe Schmick against Pam Kohlmeier.

Statewide Dye is leading with 38,933, 66.21% of the votes with Miller behind at 19,734, 33.56% and 139, 0.24% write-ins.

Whitman County voters have voted Dye in the lead at 6,272 votes, 55.59%, with Miller behind at 4,997 votes, 44.29%.

“Joe (Schmick) and I are here in Garfield County celebrating together and watching the returns,” said Dye. “I feel now that the returns are in for our legislative district I feel so grateful to be able to serve. It was a wonderful campaign, and I am really looking forward to going back and representing our district and being a strong advocate.”

Miller could not be reached at time of press.

In Adams County Dye has the lead at 1,714 votes, 79.28%, with Miller behind at 440, 20.35% and 8 write-ins, 0.37% at time of press.

Asotin County voters favored Dye with 6,433, 69.71% votes yes, with Miller behind at 2,777, 30.09% votes no, and 18, 0.2% write-ins.

Columbia County has Dye in the lead at 1,701, 77.07% votes, with Miller at 498, 22.56%, and 8, 0.36% write-ins.

Garfield County preferred Dye at 1,067, 82.59% votes, Miller at 17.18%, 222 votes and 3, 0.23% write-ins.

Also favoring Dye, Lincoln County had Dye at 3,952, 79.29% votes, Miller at 20.43%, 1,018 and 14, 0.28% write-ins.

Dye also leads in Spokane County with 17,794, 64.35% votes, Miller at 9,782, 35.38% and 74, 0.27% write-ins.

Schmick is in the lead state-wide with 38,601, 65.1% of the votes, with Kohlmeier behind at 20,626, 34.79% and 65, 0.11% write-ins.

Schmick is in the lead in Whitman County at 6,319, 55.62% votes, with Kohlmeier behind at 5,033, 44.3%.

“So far I’m very pleased with the results, and I’m very thankful,” Schmick said. “I feel honored that the people have selected me, it looks, to represent them in Olympia. It’s very humbling.”

Kohlmeier said though she is disheartened she feels like she has really give it everything shes got.

“I’m hopeful that things turn out different as votes are being county,” Kohlmeier said. “It looks disheartening and I could be doing a lot better with healthcare than he’s doing.”

Schmick took the lead in Adams County at 1,736 votes, 75.67%, with Kohlmeier behind at 442, 20.28%, and one write-in at 0.05%.

Voters in Asotin County also favored Schmick at 67.52%, 6,259 votes, with Kohlmeier behind at 3,000, 32.36% and 11, 0.12% write-ins.

Columbia County voted for Schmick at 1,701, 76.04%, Kohlmeier at 23.78% of the vote with 532 and 4, 0.18% write-ins.

Garfield County had 1,067, 82.59% of the vote for Schmick, with Kohlmeier behind at 17.41%, 225 and no write-ins.

Schmick took the vote in Lincoln County at 3,972, 78,68%, with Kohlmeier at 21.22%, 1,071 votes and 0.1%, 5 write-ins.

Spokane County favored Schmick with 17,547, 62.88% of the vote, Kohlmeier at 10,323, 36.99% and 36, 0.13% write-ins.
