Anthenaeum members plan for holiday season
COLFAX — Athenaeum Club met on Nov. 1 at the Whitman County Library with Cheryl Lothspeich as hostess.
Cammack and Colfax high school music teacher Emily Bopp are collaborating on the high school presentation of “Hello Dolly.”
Athenaeum Yearbook Chair Mary Ann Wigen, welcomed a small part of the “Hello Dolly” cast who performed several enjoyable numbers for the club.
The musical will be presented in its entirety at the high school later in November.
Club President Celesta Dailey spoke of the “Festival of Trees,” an annual competition held at the Center by the Arts Council.
The Council is asking for suitable vintage photos to decorate this year’s tree at the Center.
The program, given by Nancy Rothwell, who was dressed in period costume, was on First Lady Dolley Madison.
Madison was only the fourth first lady of our nation and found the position to be in fairly rough condition. She defined the role, creating a social structure for energy, grace and compromise. She gave birth to bi-partisan ideals.
Next athenaeum meeting will be the Christmas Luncheon at 11:30 p.m., on Dec. 6, held at Peace Lutheran Church.
