Berylene Anne DeYoung, Steptoe resident, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2024, at The Courtyard in Colfax. She was one day shy of her 82nd birthday. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be Saturday, November 23, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Corbeill Funeral Home in Colfax. She will be laid to rest in the Thornton Cemetery.
Berylene was born November 8, 1942. in Yakima, Washington. to Beryl and Ellenor Mugas Rutledge. Berylene worked as a waitress for most of her adult life, including for over 30 years at the Wheel Inn in Steptoe. She enjoyed horseback riding, camping, fishing and boating. She married Jack DeYoung and they made their home on Cashup Flats near Steptoe. She loved having lots of dogs over the years and she really enjoyed the grandkids once they came along. Berylene loved to help people shop and she had the “gift of gab” and loved to talk to people but most of all she loved to help others.
She is survived by her sons; John (Kerry) DeYoung and Doug (Tonya) DeYoung; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; her sister, Judy Young; and her brother, Tom Stock. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, by a daughter Colleen Rhuby as well as her parents.
