Theatre puts on a timeless Christmas tale
COLFAX - The Regional Theatre of the Palouse is putting on a timeless Christmas tale for the season, with the retelling of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," presenting "SCROOGE! The Musical"
The musical began Thursday, Nov. 7, with showings through this Sunday, Nov. 17.
The story of Ebenezer Scrooge came first from "A Christmas Carol," written by Charles Dickens in 1843.
The story was adapted by composer Leslie Bricusse in 1970 as the musical film, "Scrooge," which then morphed into "Scrooge! The Musical" in 1992.
The score includes "A Christmas Carol," "I Like Life," and "Thank You Very Much."
A group of local performers who started their musical theatre careers at the Regional Theatre of the Palouse are taking their next steps with professional teaching artists from New York and Pittsburgh in the main stage production.
"This journey these individuals have taken is truly special," said director Michael Todd. "Many started in their youth as summer campers, learning the ropes in a fun, supportive environment and now they're back on the same stage, with greater opportunities to shine in a full-scale musical."
Community board member Tina McClure is musical director, Washington State University graduate Gavin Hamilton is in charge of choreography, and costume designs are by RTOP Executive Director and Producer John Rich.
Matinees are at 1:30 p.m., and evening performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the box office located at 122 North Grand Avenue or online at https://www.onthestage.tickets/regional -theatre-of-the-palouse/individual-tickets.
