Gar-Pal teams place at State cross country

The boys took 2nd place, girls took 4th

PASCO, Wash. - Local athletes traveled to the Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco, Wash. to compete in the WIAA State Cross Country meet on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The Garfield-Palouse (Gar-Pal) Vikings teams came home with some hardware as the boys placed second and girls took fourth at the meet.

Other area teams included the Colton Wildcats and Pullman Greyhounds.

The Gar-Pal boys scored 64 points, ahead of the Pope John Paul II school with 68 points placing third. In cross country, the team with the lowest points wins. The first-place finishers were the Valley Christian Panthers with 23 points.

The Vikings girls scored 114 points, ahead of fifth-place finishers Valley Christian with 133. First place was Rainier with 71 points, followed by Pope John Paul II with 72 and Saint George's took third place with 85 points.

In the 1B/2B girls race, Gar-Pal freshman Emma Kritzeck led her team by placing 14th overall with a time of 20:03.8. Vikings senior Courage Hightree placed 18th at 20:20.4. Both times were personal records.

Arabella Sievers, a sophomore, placed 27th for Gar-Pal with a time of 21:04.2 and junior HettyLee Laughary placed 44th overall at 22:10.9. Vikings junior Charlotte Marshall got a season record on the day, placing 52nd with a time of 22:25.2.

For the Gar-Pal boys, seniors Brendan Snekvik and Kieran Snekvik placed fourth and fifth respectively, both with times of 16:37.7. Junior Isaiah Hightree placed 18th at 17:53.4 and freshman Sean Hallan placed 27th at 18:25.3. Ethan Lawson, a sophomore, got a personal record with a time of 18:48.9, placing 35th.

Colton junior Tanner Baerlocher placed seventh overall in the 1B boys race with a time of 17:17.2.

Two Pullman girls competed in the 2A race, each getting personal records. Junior Ada Harris placed 28th with a time of 19:48.9 and senior Alison Hathaway placed 61st at 20:47.8
