Colfax falls in State play-in
DEER PARK, Wash. - The Colfax Bulldogs' football season came to an end at the hands of the Newport Grizzlies in a State 2B play-in game on Saturday, Nov. 9.
The Grizzlies defeated the Bulldogs, 42-33.
Colfax senior Zach Cooper scored on the opening kickoff with a 90-yard kick return for a touchdown. Sophomore quarterback Ryker Reed added a 60-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
Newport answered with an 89-yard kick return for a touchdown of its own in the opening quarter by senior Brody Driver. Fellow senior Hank Kirkwood notched a 10-yard TD run before the end of the first half.
For Colfax, Reed would add a 63-yard TD run and Cooper notched a 39-yard TD run before the final buzzer. For Newport, Kirkwood would punch in a 4-yard TD run and junior Brad Martin added a 16-yard TD run.
The Bulldogs finish the season with a 7-3 record. The team will graduate seniors Cooper, Tyler Peterson, John Largent, Dillon Gassenberg, Layne Johnston, Cameron Cox, Darin Repp and Charlie Henning.
Colfax will be beefed up next season with a list of 14 current juniors looking to step up and lead the team.
