Vikings ready to raid State football playoffs

Gar-Pal defeats Wellpinit in District crossover game

PALOUSE — The Garfield-Palouse (Gar-Pal) Vikings throttled the visiting Wellpinit Redskins, 78-8, and punched their ticket to the State 1B playoffs in a District 6 crossover match on Friday, Nov. 8.

Gar-Pal led 60-0 at halftime and did not allow a score until the fourth quarter.

Vikings junior Kaleb Kelnhofer had three touchdown runs with junior Lane Collier adding two TD runs and an interception return for a score.

In the first quarter, Collier struck first on a 34-yard TD run and his 23-yard interception return. Senior quarterback Bryce Pfaff punched in a 1-yard TD run.

In the second quarter, Kelnhofer scored from 46 and 11 yards out with Collier getting a 19-yard TD run, senior Landon Orr catching a 7-yard TD pass from Pfaff and senior Nick Meeuwsen getting his own 27-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Kelnhofer and freshman Cooper Wells scored rushing touchdowns in the third quarter from 10 and 57 yards, respectively.

Freshman Brody Pfaff finished the scoring for the Vikings in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard TD run before Wellpinit’s Jace Lovato scored on a 3-yard run before the end of the game.

The Vikings are now 5-5 on the season and will enter the playoffs as the No. 10 seed. Their opening-round matchup is against the No. 7 Entiat Tigers (9-0) at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, in Wenatchee, Wash.
