Serving Whitman County since 1877
March 16, 1952 - Oct. 25, 2024
Susie was born on March 16, 1952, to Olga (Koch) Maley and Leslie William Maley. She died in her group home on October 25, 2024, of respiratory failure.
She was raised on a farm near Thornton, Washington, where she lived until she was 20. Because of a fall Olga had during pregnancy, Susie was born with a learning disability. Thanks mainly to Olga's love and commitment and to the efforts of many wonderful caregivers, however, Susie lived a full life.
Susie took memorable trips, like the one to a dude ranch where the cowboys were all handsome and the one to Disneyland, where she met some characters she'd thought existed only in cartoons. At various times, she volunteered at Meals on Wheels, participated in the Spokane Arc Community Center, competed in Special Olympics, and enjoyed a rousing game of bingo.
Susie delighted in slap-stick and romantic comedies, Westerns, all holidays, fashion, and her brother-in-law Jim. Kind, sweet, and interested in other people, she was a pleasure to spend time with. It was a gift to be her sister and friend. The family thanks the staff of ResCare and of Haven House, Susie's last home, for creating a loving environment for Susie.
Susie was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Wayne Maley and Bill Maley. Survivors include her sisters Sandy Ridlington (Jim) and Georgia Frick (Dudley) as well as nieces, nephews, and many cousins. Services will be private.
