Vikings finish season in quarterfinals

Gar-Pal football falls to No. 2 W-C-K Wildcats

MOSES LAKE, Wash. - The Garfield-Palouse (Gar-Pal) Vikings had their football season come to a close at the hand of the No. 2 team in the state, the Wilbur-Creston-Keller Wildcats on Saturday, Nov. 23.

The Vikings fell to the Wildcats, 56-12, in the quarterfinals of the WIAA 1B State playoffs. Gar-Pal finished the season with a 6-6 record.

The Wildcats opened the scoring on a 20-yard touchdown run by Davian Adams. They added to their score in the first quarter when Preston Michel punched in a 1-yard TD run to finish the first quarter ahead, 12-0.

Michel added a 32-yard TD run in the second quarter to put the Wildcats ahead 20-0. Not giving up, Gar-Pal junior running back Lane Collier scored on a 1-yard run to put the Vikings on the board.

Wilbur-Creston-Keller would score twice before halftime on a 4-yard run by TJ Stoothoff and a 64-yard pass to Kallen Maioho from Michel.

At halftime the Wildcats led, 32-6.

Stoothoff added a 28-yard TD run in the third quarter for the Wildcats, but Collier answered for the Vikings on a 12-yard TD run. The Wildcats scored again before the third quarter was out with a 20-yard run by Maioho.

The Wildcats finished the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 7-yard TD run by Michel, giving the final score of 56-12.

The Vikings will graduate seniors Bryce Pfaff, Nick Meeuwsen, Macent Rarden and Landon Orr. Gar-Pal will have a host of juniors to lead the team next year with Kaleb Kelnhofer, Lane Collier, Cason Sperber, Preston Olson, Riley Pfaff, Rowan Edwards, Clinton Rardon, Lyman Olson and TJ Fox.
