Timberwolves have a slow start to season

Tekoa-Rosalia boys begin the season 0-3

TEKOA - The Tekoa-Rosalia boys basketball team fell to the Dayton Bulldogs, 64-29, on Saturday, Dec. 7, and dropped a matchup against the Valley Christian Panthers, 42-24, on Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Against the Bulldogs, Dayton opened the scoring with a 3-pointer and a layup. Timberwolves junior Brian Place put Tekoa-Rosalia on the board with a pair of free throws early in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs continued to run the court in the opening frame, but freshman Ty Weldy gave the Timberwolves some life by grabbing two rebounds and fighting his way to a layup. Shortly after, senior Jordan Gump hit a 3-pointer and junior Seth Rerecich nabbed a rebound then passed the ball to senior Westley Bryan for a 3-pointer.

Late in the first quarter Dayton was able to make six free throws off of bonus fouls to take a 25-10 lead.

The Timberwolves opened the second quarter on a 3-pointer, but the Bulldogs persisted. After trading field goals, the halftime score read 37-21 in favor of Dayton.

Tekoa-Rosalia was only able to score two points in the third quarter, while the Bulldogs increased their lead. At the end of the third quarter Dayton built a 60-23 advantage.

With the fourth quarter being mostly free throws, the final score became 64-29 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Junior Brian Place led the Bulldogs with six points on two field goals and going 2-for-2 at the free-throw line. Gump added five points on two field goals, one of them a 3-pointer. Weldy notched four points on two field goals in the game.

The Timberwolves went on to play the Valley Christian Panthers on Tuesday, Dec. 10. Tekoa-Rosalia fell to Valley Christian, 42-24. A full box score was not available at press time.

Next up for the Timberwolves will be to take on the Colton Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, in Tekoa.
