Nighthawk girls basketball dominates

OAKESDALE - The Oakesdale Nighthawks girls basketball team had a successful week on the court, going 3-0 in their last three games.

The Nighthawks defeated the Waitsburg Cardinals, 71-9, on Friday, Dec. 13, before beating the St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse (SJEL) Eagles, 71-7, on Saturday, Dec. 14. Oakesdale then beat the Colton Wildcats, 48-28, on Monday, Dec. 16.

Against Waitsburg, Oakesdale gained a 25-2 lead to end the first quarter. At halftime, the Nighthawks led, 43-6.

Continuing their domination of the court, the Nighthawks added 15 points in the third quarter and held the Cardinals to two. Waitsburg only gained one point in the fourth quarter and Oakesdale scored 13, giving the final score of 71-9.

Against the Eagles, the game was played in a similar fashion.

The Nighthawks had a 24-4 lead to end the first quarter and built a 50-5 lead at halftime. The Eagles scored two points in the third quarter and the Nighthawks scored 17. Oakesdale shut out SJEL in the final quarter and scored four points for the final 71-7 win.

Against Colton, the Nighthawks had a 15-6 lead to end the first quarter and gained a 26-8 advantage at halftime. Oakesdale led, 40-16, to end the third quarter before winning the game, 48-28.

Next up for the Nighthawks was to take on the Wilbur-Creston-Keller Wildcats on Wednesday, Dec. 18, after press time. Their next matchup will be against the Dayton Bulldogs at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, in Oakesdale.
