T-wolves girls split weekend

Team defeats Waitsburg Cardinals, falls to Gar-Pal Vikings

ROSALIA — Last weekend, the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves girls basketball team split a pair of games against the Waitsburg Cardinals and Garfield-Palouse (Gar-Pal) Vikings.

The Timberwolves defeated the Cardinals, 61-15, on Friday, Dec. 20, before falling to the Vikings, 78-26, on Saturday, Dec. 21.

The Tekoa-Rosalia (T-R) defense held strong on the court, allowing just one point by the Waitsburg offense in the entire first half — a free throw with 2:30 remaining in the first quarter. At the end of the opening frame, the Timberwolves held a 23-1 lead and took a 42-1 lead by halftime.

The Timberwolves added 10 points in the third and nine points in the fourth with the Cardinals gaining nine in the third and five points in the fourth for the final T-R victory.

Against the Vikings the next night, Gar-Pal took a 19-5 lead to end the first quarter and had a 36-13 advantage at halftime. The Timberwolves scored seven in the third and nine in the fourth, while the Vikings scored 25 in the third and 17 in the fourth.

Hannah Douglas led the Timberwolves with 14 points on three field goals and shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Avery Blank and Clare Wilkins each scored four points for T-R with Megan Maley adding three.

The Timberwolves will bring in the new year with an away game against the St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse Eagles at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3. T-R will return home the next night with a game against the Oakesdale Nighthawks at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, in Rosalia.
