Hearing dates moved for more thorough investigation
COLFAX — Two teenage students accused of plotting to shoot a Pullman High School teacher signed waivers of speedy trial during a hearing in Superior Court Thursday, Jan. 2.
Pullman High School students Izzy Alexander Miranda, of Pullman, and Corban L. Hop of Colton, both 14, appeared before Whitman County Superior Court Judge Gary Libey, who approved moving a readiness hearing to Thursday, Feb. 6, and set a trial date for Monday, March 31.
Both Miranda and Hop stated they understood the waiver of speedy trial.
Miranda and Hop were arrested Tuesday, Dec. 10. Miranda was detained on charges of harassment-threats to kill and threats to bomb or injure property. Hop was also arrested on a charge of threats to bomb or injure property.
Miranda and Hop were booked into Martin Hall Juvenile Detention Facility on $2,000 cash-only bail.
They were arraigned Dec. 19 before Superior Court Judge Gary Libey.
Court records show that students reported Hop gave Miranda $400 to purchase a firearm, according to a probable cause statement by Pullman Police Officer Nathan Padtra.
Hop was intercepted on his way to school and frisked, but no firearms were found on his person, court records show.
During the investigation, the boys were issued a trespass warning effective for all Pullman schools records show. Miranda was detained and Hop was allowed to leave school, records show. Hop was later arrested at home after police interviewed several other students.
According to reports, no firearms were found.
Pullman High School resumed normal operations Dec. 10 and no injuries were reported.
