Oakesdale Nighthawks win the weekend

Boys and girls go 2-0 in two games

OAKESDALE - Both the Oakesdale Nighthawks boys and girls basketball teams went undefeated last weekend, defeating the Colton Wildcats on Friday, Jan. 10, and the St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse (SJEL) Eagles on Saturday, Jan. 11.

The Nighthawk boys defeated the Colton Wildcats, 70-23, on Friday before heading to LaCrosse to beat the SJEL Eagles, 70-40 on Saturday. The girls won against the Wildcats, 55-33, and beat the Eagles, 75-16.

Boys games

Against the Wildcats, the Nighthawks defense shut out Colton in the first quarter, with the offense taking a 17-0 lead. At halftime the Nighthawks led, 36-6. Oakesdale had its best quarter of the game in the third, scoring 21 points and holding the Wildcats to 12. With Oakesdale scoring 13 in the fourth and holding Colton to five, the Nighthawks gained the victory.

Nighthawks junior Emeric Anderson led his team with 23 points on 10 field goals and three free throws. Sophomore Ryker Reed added 11 points, shootin 4-for-5 in field goals and 3-for-4 at the free-throw line. Freshman Kallan DeMeerleer and senior Dawson Lobdell each added eight points with sophomore Caleb Wagner contributing seven.

Oakesdale went on to defeat the Eagles on Saturday.

The Nighthawks led, 22-5, to end the first quarter and built a 44-9 lead at halftime. With Oakesdale scoring 24 points in the second half and SJEL scoring 31, the Nighthawks won the game.

Girls games

For the game against Colton, the Oakesdale girls beat the Wildcats, 55-33, in Southeast 1B action on Friday. Full statistics were not available at press time.

Against SJEL, the Nighthawks took a 28-3 lead at the end of the first quarter and built a 54-5 lead at halftime. By the end of the third quarter, the Nighthawks led, 67-6, and shut out the Eagles in the final frame while scoring 12 for the win.

Oakesdale junior Bradyn Henley led the Nighthawks with 27 points, hitting four 3-pointers from 11 field goals. Sophomore Grace Perry added 22 points for the Nighthawks on 10 field goals and a free throw.

The Nighthawks will next face the Waitsburg Cardinals on Friday, Jan. 17, with home games in Oakesdale. The girls game will start at 6 p.m. and the boys will follow at 7:30 p.m
