Dual in the Den brings girls wrestling to Tekoa

TEKOA - Six teams, 11 matches.

That was the scene for Tekoa-Rosalia's first-ever girls wrestling meet at Tekoa-High School.

The inaugural "Dual in the Den" was also senior night; and the Timberwolves recognized two visiting seniors as well as two of their own.

Participating teams in the historic local event included host Tekoa-Rosalia and visiting Colfax, Kettle Falls, Liberty (Spangle), Lind-Ritzville/Sprague and Wilbur-Creston-Keller.

Timberwolf victories bookended the evening, with Lulu Taylor pinning Kendall McGovern of Kettle Falls in the opening 170-pound bout and Ellie Terry pinning JoJo Thomas to close the night with a 140-pound victory.

The event marked Taylor's only home match of her high school career and Terry's first-ever victory. It was also a hometown match for Trinit Burd, who lives in Tekoa, attends high school in Oakesdale and wrestles for Colfax.

Prior to the start of matches, the Timberwolves presented visiting Liberty (Spangle) seniors Riley Kelley and Hanna Perkins, with both girls receiving roses.

Timberwolves seniors recognized during the evening included Taylor and wrestler/manager Keeley Fournier, who has taken a leadership role on the side of the mat due to a knee injury. The girls, who received bouquets, were joined on the mat by parents and siblings.

Riley Rohrbach of Liberty won by technical fall, 15-0, over Raeshelle Keatts of Tekoa-Rosalia.
