Nighthawks Boys and girls defeat Waitsburg, Dayton
OAKESDALE - The Oakesdale Nighthawks boys and girls basketball teams left last weekend undefeated in Southeast 1B League play as they beat the Waitsburg Cardinals on Friday, Jan. 17, and the Dayton Bulldogs on Saturday, Jan. 18.
The Nighthawk girls defeated the Cardinals, 81-14, and the Bulldogs, 60-9, while the boys beat the Cardinals, 80-29, and the Bulldogs, 54-26.
Oakesdale girls control the court
The Nighthawks dominated the Waitsburg Cardinals, taking a 26-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and shutting out the Cardinals in the second frame. At halftime, the Nighthawks led, 54-4.
With a 67-7 score at the end the the third quarter for the Nighthawks, Oakesdale easily defeated Waitsburg for the final frame.
Against Dayton, the Nighthawks controlled the court throughout the game, winning 60-9. Full results were not available at press time.
Nighthawks boys on a heater
The Oakesdale boys have won five games in a row, defeating Waitsburg and Dayton over the weekend.
Against the Cardinals, the Nighthawks secured a 25-8 lead to end the first quarter and held a 52-14 lead at halftime.
Adding to their lead, the Nighthawks were ahead, 70-21, to end the third quarter before winning the game, 80-29.
Against the Bulldogs, it was a lower offensive pursuit with the Nighthawks taking a 54-26 win. Full statistics were not available at press time.
Next up for the Nighthawks was to take on the DeSales Irish in Southeast 1B League play on Tuesday, Jan. 21, after press time. The Nighthawks will finish out the regular season with home matches against Pomeroy on Friday, Jan. 24, against Garfield-Palouse on Saturday, Jan. 28, and against the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
