Timberwolves basketball splits League games

Tekoa-Rosalia girls go 1-1, boys 0-2

TEKOA - Over the weekend, the Tekoa-Rosalia (T-R) Timberwolves faced off against the Colton Wildcats and Waitsburg Cardinals for Southeast 1B League matchups.

On Friday, Jan. 17, the T-R girls fell to the Wildcats, 60-43, before defeating the Cardinals, 63-28, on Saturday, Jan. 18.

The Timberwolves boys dropped a pair of League games to the Wildcats, 60-38, on Friday and just fell short of the Cardinals, 52-50, on Saturday.

Girls games

Against the Wildcats, the Timberwolves kept pace with Colton for the first quarter, scoring 10 points and allowing 11 points from the Wildcats. Colton found its footing in the second quarter, scoring 17 points and holding T-R to four for a halftime score of 28-14 in favor of the Wildcats.

With Colton gaining 21 points in the third quarter and eight in the fourth while holding T-R to seven in the third and 16 in the fourth, the Wildcats got the win.

Senior Clare Wilkins led the Timberwolves with 12 points on five field goals while fellow senior Hannah Douglas and freshman Ady Carren each scored seven. Junior Megan Maley and sophomore Ty Nomee each scored six points in the game for Tekoa-Rosalia.

Against the Cardinals the next night, the Timberwolves ran the court, defeating Waitsburg by 35 points.

Boys games

Against Colton, the Wildcats took a 13-4 lead in the game at the end of the first quarter and led 31-20 at halftime. With the Timberwolves scoring seven points in the third and the Wildcats adding 21 in the same frame, Colton took the advantage.

The Timberwolves bounced back in the fourth, scoring 16 points and holding the Wildcats to eight, but the deficit was too much and Colton came away with the win.

Senior Jordan Gump led the Timberwolves with 12 points on a pair of 3-pointers and shooting 6-for-8 at the free-throw line. Juniors Brian Place and Seth Rerecich each added eight points for the Timberwolves.

The next night, T-R just fell short of the Waitsburg Cardinals by two points, falling 52-20. The game was close the whole way but the Timberwolves couldn't pull off a game-winning shot at the end.

Next up for the Timberwolves was to play the Northeast 2B Jenkins (Chewelah) Cougars on Tuesday, Jan. 21, after press time. T-R will next play the Garfield-Palouse Vikings in away games on Friday, Jan. 24, with the girls game starting at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow at 7:30 p.m.
