Serving Whitman County since 1877
COLFAX — Local volunteer firefighters are continuing over 40 years of Christmas tradition, accepting donations for this year’s Christmas Toy Box Drive.
Colfax EMS Coordinator and Toy Box Organizer Jamie Keller said the firefighters provide toys to children in Whitman County.
“We take donations and they start in November and go through February,” Keller said, adding they then go shopping for kids in the age groups.
“We put together a store and we let the people who register through the Health Department come and look,” she said, adding this is up to the age of 18 and that to go through people have to register through the Health Department.
The toys are distributed throughout Whitman County, except in the Pullman City limits because there is an overabundance of their own resources to help kids.
Keller said the Toy Box Drive brought in approximately 225 kids last year and that anyone can donate either toys or money at the Fire Department in person or mailing it to the P.O. Box.
“We have had quite a few toy donations this year,” she said. “People bringing in bags of toys to the fire department.”
Keller said she thinks there is a lot more need with what’s going on financially this year and anticipates there being more this year.
Store days at the Toy Box Drive are Tuesday Dec. 17 through Thursday, Dec. 19 and those interested can register by Friday, Dec. 13, by calling the Health Department at (509)-397-6280.
