Colfax Bulldogs have a State title to defend

Boys team returns from last year's perfect season

COLFAX - Bulldogs boys basketball head coach Reece Jenkin and his team ended last season with a perfect 29-0 record, winning the District and State championships.

This year, Colfax brings back two starters in Jayce Kelly and Adrik Jenkin. Seniors this season are Kelly at guard and JP McAnally at forward. Other expected contributors include Ledger Kelly, Gunner Brown, Dillon Thompson, Caleb Lusig and McAnally.

"We lost a lot of experience from the prior year, but we have the potential to be a good team," Reece Jenkin said. "We hope to learn and grow as a team and at the end of the season we hope to be fighting for a state playoff berth."

This is Jenkin's 16th year coaching and he sports an overall record of 291-112. He is assisted by Ben Aune and Rob Mcintosh.

Jenkin said that while the Bulldogs may lack some experience, the team chemistry, size and athletic ability will be some strengths.

Several other teams will be fighting to dethrone the Bulldogs for the State title and Jenkin said the league Colfax plays in is one of the toughest to get through.

"I think we play in one of the best leagues in the state at the 2B level," Jenkin said. "The last three state champions have come out of the league, and I think there are a lot of teams returning with talent and experience. We added two teams that dropped down from the A classification to an already competitive league so our district tournament is going to be extremely tough."

Colfax opened the season with a home game against the Garfield-Palouse Vikings at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, after press time. The Bulldogs will travel to Spokane to take on the St. George's Dragons at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, and round out the weekend by returning to Colfax for a home game against the Riverside Rams at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7.
