Cusick boys basketball defeats SJEL
ST. JOHN - On the first night of play for the 2024 basketball season, the St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse (SJEL) Eagles fell to the Cusick Panthers, 73-48, on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
The Panthers built a 15-10 lead at the end of the first quarter then exploded on offense in the second frame, giving a halftime score of 42-23. At the end of the third quarter, Cusick led, 59-38. The Eagles kept up with the Panthers in the fourth quarter, but the deficit was too much to mount a comeback.
"It was a real hard game, got in foul trouble early on, but we had a better second half," said SJEL head coach Tom Huntwork. "They (Cusick) were ranked seventh in the state last year, so I think we'll do just fine this season."
The Eagles will next play the Dayton Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 in an away game. SJEL will return home at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, to take on 2B opponent Upper Columbia Academy Lions.
