Panthers pounce Eagles

SJEL girls basketball opens season against Cusick

ST. JOHN - The St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse (SJEL) Eagles girls basketball team opened the season with a 42-29 loss to the Cusick Panthers on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

The Panthers led 13-3 at the end of the first quarter and built a 21-7 lead by halftime. After the third frame, Cusick led 29-16 and each team scored 13 points in the fourth quarter to give the final score. The fourth was the highest-scoring quarter for the Eagles.

"For having eight girls, five of which are freshmen and two who haven't played since third grade, to do what they did in that second half I don't have any complaints," said SJEL head coach Mike Thomas.

The Eagles were led by Loren Loomis with 14 points, nine coming in the fourth quarter. Chloe Waddell added 10 points for the Eagles. The team went 6-for-18 at the free-throw line.

SJEL will next play an away game against the Dayton Bulldogs at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, before returning home at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, to take on 2B foe the Upper Columbia Academy Lions.
